Had To Build A Ramp

Well, I didn't have to, but I wanted a ramp. Of course nothing is easy. Making the ramp was pretty easy though. It's getting the ground pretty level with the ramp is the tricky part. The dirt you see in front of the ramp is just the start, want to make the ground kind of level with the ramp in front of it then slowly tamper off on the sides.

When I put the woodchipper in the shed I used the two ramps I use to put the lawn tractor in the big shed out back. Those two ramps are 2x12x6 feet and are a pain in the butt dragging them around for use in different locations. Although they are 6-feet in length, they are a little long for the shed above because of the bank you see on the left.

Eventually I want to make a ramp like in the picture out at the big shed. It gets a little hairy at times backing down two single ramps and even more so backing down the ramps with the zero-turn mower. One wrong move with the controls and the front end will come down off the ramps.

The ramp in the picture above is 4-feet wide x 5 feet long. It's made out of four 2x4's spaced 16-inches on center with deck boards on top. 6-foot would have been better but not having a lot of space in front I made them 5-foot. The idea was try and not making it any steeper than I have to if I have to push the woodchipper in the shed, which I did with the 6-ramps.

Maybe I'll post another pic when I get the ground in front of the ramp done.
