Anyone Have A Burned Out Worx WG309 Laying Around?

WORX WG309

Bad day today. Was cutting some logs and got the chain between a "Y" which stopped the chain with a sudden stop and then heard some weird noises coming from the saw. When I took it apart I found out that the big nylon gear behind the cover you see in the picture got stripped.

Tried finding a new one but didn't and they are also discontinued. Even though the chainsaw broke down, there is no shame for this chainsaw. Had it for many years and cut tons of wood with it. To bad it crapped out now. Still have to finish up what I was cutting and two other that are pretty big.

If you happen to have this chainsaw and its pretty much junk, I'd buy that nylon gear off of you if it's in good shape.

Chances of me finding that gear, new or used is probably pretty slim to none. My only other option I guess is to buy a new chainsaw, but this time I think I'm going to go with an 18" rather than a 10" The biggest thing about going with an 18" is that it's not a pole saw, were the 8" was. Even though the 8" is a pole saw... it was really heavy on the end of the pole! Guess I'll just have to use a ladder if I get an 18"

Want Fire in Your Fire Pit?

Last evening we decide to go up to the fire pit and listen to some music, drink a few beers, and watch the sky. It was kind of windy at first and wasn't sure if I really wanted to make a fire, but I did. After about an hour (maybe longer), the wind died down and it was pretty nice out.

After a bit I went down to the house to grab us another beer or so when I seen my neighbors fire going. I think it was more of a bonfire then a fire in a fire pit! Don't know what they were burning but it was a pretty big fire. I know last year I seen the same big fire going.

Busy Day, More Trees

Another busy day today. After getting up and have a few coffee's went out and cut what logs I had laying around, then loaded them into the truck to where the log splitter is sitting and split them all. I was wondering how the electric log splitter was going to cut freshly cut green wood, went through them like butter. The biggest piece was a little over 12" in diam. and 20-inches long but it split with no problem. Another piece was almost the same in diam. but it got wider because of it turning into a "Y", it split it with no problem also.

After splitting all the logs I cut I went ahead and stacked it, so that's done. The next tree to be cut is kind of scary. Not only is it tall, but it's on top of rock bridge support. On top of this rock bridge support you have about 3-feet. One side you might fall about 3-4 feet, but if you go off the other side, you'll fall about 20 feet, ouch! The tree I just cut down was right beside this tree but I could tie a rope around it and pull it the way I wanted it to fall. This next tree has no branches on it to throw a rope around, it does, but it's way to high and I could never throw a rope that high.

In the picture you can see the tree is growing on top of the rocks, and the arrow points to where there is a brance sticking out where I'd like to put the rope. I could never throw it that high... maybe if I stood on top of the rock wall but if I'd lose my balance I might fall off the other side... probably instant death.

So I have that to think about. I also did put out a lot of "Tree of Heaven" trees growning. If you don't have Tree of Heaven in your yard, etc., consider yourself lucky! It's an invaseive tree and a real pain. If you want, look it up.

Another thing I did today was pull the new Cub Cadet out of the shed so I could get the old Cub Cadet out for pulling the wood chipper around. Of course wouldn't you know the old Cub Cadet had a flat on the one front tire, last year it had a flat on the other front tire. So maybe tomorrow if it doesn't rain I might do some wood chipping.

Ninja!!

Another new item we picked up today, a Ninja countertop oven. We had a countertop oven, a fairly big one which we had for five years, and it finally crapped out on us the other week. We cooked a pizza the other week and it didn't come out very good, we thought it was the pizza,

The following week we made fries and they didn't come out very good either, what the hell? After looking things over I found out the top element wasn't coming on, just the bottom one.

The new oven (shown below) is probably less then half the height of the old oven, but we really didn't need a big oven being we would never cook a small chicken, etc., in it. We mostly cook things like taco shells, pizza, and maybe a pan of something in it every once in a great while.

So, how does it work? Don't know yet, maybe in a few days. Just like everything else I seen good reviews and bad reviews. The company that puts this oven out is Shark, the ones that also make the sweepers, etc.

In other news.... tomorrow if it's not windy, might cut a tree down or two, just hope they don't fall on the shed! Last year we cut a lot of trees down and got lucky and didn't have any trees fall on anything, though I was concerned about the one that had to fall between the pool and the shed, but it came down ok.

Electric Wood Splitter?

Ok, like in the video below, we bought a fire pit last year and splitting all the wood we cut down turned into a real pain. Of course, just like the guy in the video, I'm not a young guy anymore.

So how did the wood splitter work? Great but for three pieces that came from the same tree. These three pieces were had tight twisted grains in them, so the wood wouldn't actually make a clean split and it did stop the splitter, but I did get them split making smaller passes through the wood. Overall though, the splitter did a real good job.

Video of the YardMax 9-Ton wood splitter: YardMax YS0952 Log Splitter - YouTube

The only other thing that I can say is a negative about the wood splitter is it's weight at 165 lbs. Although it has wheels on it, the wheels are not on the ground when the splitter is in use, the back end sits on like little blocks the keep the wheels off the ground when in use, I take it that's so it's more stable and doesn't try to roll?

So if you move the splitter, you have to pick it up by its handle at the other end and lift it high enough that the wheels come in contact with the ground so it will roll. If you use this in a driveway, where you have asphalt, or concrete to roll it on, its probably not so bad to move, but if you move it through a yard where the ground is even or soft, and being the wheels are pretty close together, it might tip over on you if the ground isn't even.

What I did was I bought a wagon to mount the wood splitter on at least for the time being. On the front of the wood splitter there are two holes in its legs where you can bolt it down, which I did with it mounted on the wagon. In the front where it bolts to the wagon there is a board on top and under the wagon bed, so the weight of the splitter is distributed across the wagon, and not pushing or pulling in one little spot where the legs are bolted down.

In the back there is only one piece of wood which the splitter sits on being there is no way to bolt that part down. I did run a big headed screw in an angle on each side of the blocks the splitter sits on to help hold it in place, so it doesn't try to slide. The strap you see on it is only on when moving the splitter from one place to another to help support it.

Will be cutting more trees down before to long, so the splitter will be moved and put to use again.
