Busy Day but Got Nothing Done.

I hate day's like today... a lot of wasted time.

1. The tobacco came today.
2. The motor for the electric log splitter then came.
3. They were going to deliver the shed today.
4. They called and said  big gas powered wood splitter was ready to pick up.

I couldn't go get the wood splitter because of waiting for them to deliver the shed. By the time the guy called saying he was on his way, I could have went and got the wood splitter and brought it home. It's to rain this evening and all day tomorrow so I guess I'll have to wait until Friday to pick it up.

At least they were nice enough to throw in 9 gallons of hydraulic fluid for free.

Lots of Wood to Split if I had a Log Splitter.

I have a log splitter, two of them. The electric log splitter needs a new motor which should be delivered today, and I'm still waiting for the gas-powered log splitter to be put together. I wanted to put the gas-powered log splitter together myself, but it's just too heavy. It's only about a 2.5-hour job.

I still have about 4-5 big logs I need to cut up, but they are to big to cut and try to lift on the truck, so when I get the gas-powered log splitter, I tow it over to where they are at then cut and split them right there.

What kind of wood is this? Have no idea, and it doesn't really matter to me being I'm not using it to heat my home, this wood is for up at the fire pit, and we burn a lot of wood when we go there because I make big fires.

Also, the new shed is to be delivered today which is a 10x16 shed. It's going to used for storing Halloween and Christmas stuff as well as some other things. I post a few pictures of it when I get a chance.

About the Full Bore 38-ton Log Splitter.

Full Bore 38-Ton Log Splitter

I was to pick this up today but didn't, why? It comes down to two reason's, weight and common sense. This thing weighs about 515 pounds! It's not so bad with the wheels, engine, tongue, and the back of the trailer. I could pull them off and assemble them, the hard part is the beam and cylinder, those two parts are one unit, so I don't even know if I could get it off the truck. Not only that, but to hook the trailer part to the beam, you have to stand the beam up on end to connect the two together. So, you have to have at least one person holding it up while another person bolts the two together (it's actually a pin).

Not having a place where I could lift it with a chain hoist, etc, plus trying to do it in a dirt lane would be hard to keep balanced and once it would start to go, there would be no stopping it, either the thing would get damaged, or someone could get seriously hurt.

So rather than taking a chance, I called the store to let them put it together. Of course, they too are having some issues. They are putting something down on the floor and they need to get an assembly person in, so they said it might be a few weeks.

I would rather put it together myself knowing everything was correct and everything was tight, but what are you going to do? You can bet when I do get it and get it home I'll be going over everything.

When I go to pick it up, I'll be pulling it home with the truck. Your not to go over 45 MPH, which is no problem being most of the speed lime home is only 40 MPH.

Ever Do Anything Totally Stupid?

Prorun 55.5cc Chainsaw

This is my goto chainsaw for cutting bigger stuff. It's a Prorun 50.5cc with a 20-inch bar. This saw cuts really good with lots of power. The other day I was cutting some big logs and the chain stopped. This was the second time this ever happened since I owned this saw. The reason for the chain stopping was because the sprocket at the end of the bar would get clogged up with sawdust. It was no big deal, just loosen the chain and work the sprocket free with a little oil on it.

I think it was the next day I was cutting some more of these big logs which some I left because they were too big and heavy for me to lift up into the back of the truck. Then I came up with the idea of seeing how hard they would be to cut in half so I could them load them.

When I went over to get the chainsaw where I put it, I kind of remembered that I knocked it over on its side at one point. I didn't set it up right because I knew I'd be grabbing it again in a few seconds as soon as I got the log I was going to cut in half into position.

When I started the saw and went to make my cut, again the chin wouldn't turn. So I loosened the bar, and went try and free the sprocket at the end of the bar, but it turned freely... humm. I then removed the bar and went to turn the clutch, it was tight and really too hot to try and turn it by hand, so that was the end of my cutting for the day.

When I got home, the clutch cold off enough that I could try turning it by hand, it was too tight. I then removed the snap ring, a washer, then put a rag around the sprocket on the clutch and with pilers, worked it off the engine shaft.

After I got it off and cleaned it up.... I seen what happend... (THE STUPID PART), when I knocked the saw over on its side, I must have engaged the break on the saw! This is why the chain wouldn't turn. DUH!!!

Of course, I gave this no thought because I never use the break, so why would I give it a thought that it was on? So when I put the clutch drum back on, it ran fine. At least the inside of the clutch and the clutch drum got a good cleaning!

Another thing I like about this saw is it seems to always start. When its cold, it might take one or two pulls with the choke on, the one pull with the choke off. After it's been running and its hot, it almost always starts with one pull.

YardMax 9-Ton Log Splitter.

YardMax 9-Ton Log Splitter.

As for my YardMax 9-ton log splitter, used it last year, put it away for winter, got it out this year being I have a big pile of logs to split, plugged it in, hit the start button.... nothing!!! Checked the outlet, 20 foot 15 amp extension cord, everything ok. Took out the capacitor and had it checked, it was ok. I then did some trouble shooting and found power was going everywhere and into the motor, but it wouldn't run. I checked the resistance on the motor, and it showed as an open circuit.

Now, about the warranty... what a pain in the butt! First, I had to register the splitter on the web site, model, serial No. Next, they wanted a video of the problem... well, there is nothing to show, but I still had to send a video of it plugged in and hitting the start button! I worked on motors for a lot of years and know how to troubleshoot electrical problems. But they still wanted me to take it to a shop, which I did. They checked it out and came up with the same thing, bad motor, that cost me $50.00 for finding out what I already knew.

Do I get reimbursed? They said if I take it to a shop or same shop, they will reimburse me my $50.00 if they approve an estimate to repair it, really? It would probably cost more to have them repair it then it would cost to buy another splitter.

After I got kind of stern with them, I told them to just honor their warranty and send me a new motor. They did put in for a new motor to be sent. They also said once I receive the new motor and install it, to make a video of the splitter working as it should, they would reimburse my $50.00.

To make this short, I am getting a new motor, which is good being I really liked the 9-ton splitter, but... all of the troubles you have to go through, just doesn't seem worth it. I told them I'd never buy another Yardmax product again. Sure, things do break down, but having to go through so much to get a part for something that is under warranty is a pain.

I just got an email stating a new motor was sent out. I really liked this log splitter, it split some pretty tough wood, and I went through a shit load of wood! This little machine went through "almost" everything I threw at it, the only time I had some problems was with wood that was "stringy" inside. When the motor arrives, I'll replace it and hopefull get my $50.00 back.

In the meantime, I decided to go with something bigger, like really bigger! Check out my new log splitter, it should be here in a few days!

So, will see what happens when it arrives
